About Us What is the relationship of the students to the community? At present, quite amicable. Yelm was incorporated as a town in 1924. It became a city in 1989. Its current population is 3,289. The remaining county lands that surround the hub of Yelm are home to thousands more. Thurston Couty is one of the fastest growing counties in Washinton State and Yelm is one of the top expanding cities in the county.
Some RSE students and former students have opened shops and businesses in Yelm and Rainier,
contributing a unique mixture of professions to the community. Yelm is filled with artists from RSE. There are a number of students who have published books, created films and released CDs. There are others who are active in performing and visual arts locally, in the Pacific Northwest, nationally and even globally. RSE students have taken responsibilty for being an active part of their community in terms of how it developes and what they want the future of Yelm and the surrounding area to be. They have organized and efficiently raised their voices in public meetings and rallys, helping to resolve town issues. Some very courageuos students have even run for public office. |
